Redpath Windbreak + Butterfly clips
Many crops can benefit from wind shelter and for some it’s essential for plants at an early age. Redpath windbreak is also used to protect your home and surrounding environment from excessive or persistent winds.
Redpath import and distribute a range of high quality windbreak fabrics for use in horticulture, animal shelters and for the home garden. A commercial grade monofilament construction is used with UV stabilisation properties to make it well suited to New Zealand and Australian conditions. Butterfly clips may be used for many situations to secure the cloth.
Redpath windbreak is the same family of fabrics as the Redpath shadecloth range, and it can be used for windbreak duties. The two different weights of cloths (grams per sqm) will give differing levels of wind shelter.
Widths vary dependent on the grade and include 970mm, 2m, 4m and 6m widths. Roll lengths are 50 metres, although you can purchase a cut length of any width or grade. Increments of 1m or 2m. (see cut length options below)
The 2m, 4m and 6m sized rolls are folded in half for ease of shipping.
Redpaths UV stabilised windbreak cloth is regularly quoted by our customers as being able to last 10 years or more. Our commercial grade windbreak is a trusted brand and is used nationwide by farmers, horticulturists, nurseries, councils and government departments.
The wind protection factor stated is ‘nominal’ – Wind protection factors will vary depending on the design of the windbreak, the aspect of the windbreak to the relevant wind direction, wind-speed and the condition and cleanliness of the windbreak fabric.
You can use Redpaths butterfly design windbreak clip to secure the cloth at the edges to a wire, (see below for further info)
GSM ‘grams per square metre’ is also nominal as this weight is an average weight across the full roll and can vary due to the manufacturing knitting process.
NOTE: Always order a slightly wider and longer length of cloth than your structure measures, – this is so that you have enough cloth leftover to secure the cloth to whatever design structure you are fitting it too.
Select the weight (GSM) of wind cloth that you or your consultant best think suits your crop and location needs (we can post you small samples upon request to assist)

Redpath Butterfly type – Wind clips
The Redpath butterfly wind clips are a simple way to secure wind cloth or shadecloth to a wire or cable; they are supplied in packs of 50 or bags of 100. The physical size of the clip when opened out is 76mm x 33mm. (When closed 40mm x 33mm).
The clips have two main locking pins and 4 additional locator pins, and include a reinforced ribbed hinge + an opening so that a wire may be run through the clip at 90deg to the cloth retaining wire.
They are manufactured from UV stabilised black Polyethylene for improved durability and flexibility against perishing or cracking. By closing the hinge of the butterfly clip over a wire each side presses together to lock and traps the wind cloth in-between. Typically you would use approximately four clips per metre at the edge of the windbreak or shadecloth.
Butterfly clips are suited to lighter uses for windbreaks, for heavy duty taller windbreaks it may be worth considering to use sewn in hemmed pockets along both edges of the cloth, which you can then thread a wire through.
Redpath Duralock 2, aluminium track clipping system may also be used to secure the shadecloth fabric to the buildings framework See link page HERE
